The Cellular Jail
The Cellular Jail, which was witness to the imprisonment of the
freedom fighters of India, is a National Memorial now. Originally
a seven-pronged structure, only three out of the seven remain today.
Son-Et-Lumiere: This is the saga of the heroic freedom fighters
in Kala Pani brings alive in a moving sound and light show. Timings
- 6.00 pm (Hindi) and 7.15 pm (English).
The Museum
The Museum, an Art gallery, and a Photo gallery, which are open
on all days except Monday from 9.00 AM to 12 Noon and 2.00 PM to
5.00 PM.
Marine Life
Andaman and the Nicobar Islands lest you experience marine life.
Talking of corals, you will come across the most quaint names, as
the brain coral, finger coral, antler coral, plate coral, vase coral
and leather coral amongst others. Fish, crab, lobsters, sea urchins,
shrimps, cleaner wrasse, anemone, clownfish are some of the easy
spots at the Andaman and the Nicobar Islands.
Birds Island also known as Chidiya Tapu
Its lush mangroves and beach make it an ideal picnic site and sun

also offers the lure of underwater coral gardens and unspoiled beaches.
An occasional Dolphin may also greet the eyes. A great place for
swimming, scuba diving and snorkeling. Timing: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Corbyn's Cove (10 km)
The nearest beach to Port Blair, Corbyn's Cove is a treat to your
eyes; the beach calm, quiet and romantic.
Jolly Buoy Island
Jolly Buoy Island offers a breath taking view of underwater Coral
and marine life. Glass bottom boats help to take a closer look at
the coral colonies. Ideal for sea bathing and basking.
Mount Harriet (55 km)
Mount Harriet is the highest hill around South Andaman and is about
365 mt (1200 ft) tall. Formerly it was the headquarters of the Chief
Commissioner. The hilltop provides an excellent view of the Port
Blair city and the environs with the outline of Havelock Islands
and Ross Island.
Ross Island
Once the seat of British power and capital of these islands, it
stands now as a ruin of the bygone days with the old structure almost
in debris. A small museum named SMITIKA holds photographs and antiques
of the British relevant to these islands.
Ritchies Archipelago (40 km)
Lying off the coast of South Andaman and Baratang Islands, one of
the main attractions here is Havelock Islands. The white sand beaches,
turquoise waters, coral reefs and a whole range of marine life,
the waters are ideal for scuba diving and snorkeling. You will also
get to see elephants in the deep forests

Black Rocks
Standing alone in the Andaman Sea, Black Rock is famous for its
incredible schools of mobula rays. Then, there are the encounters
with manta rays and eagle rays soaring above and around you off
the deep northwestern corner, and huge Marble Stingrays and Leopard
sharks on the sandy bottom.
Adventure Sports
Explore the marine population of these islands, the great diversities
of resplendent fishes, unique coral reefs and mysterious residues
of sunken ships - all these and much more through scuba diving.
Undertake the trek from Mt. Harriet to Madhuban, which offers the
awesome trekking trail, the complete track lined with rich forest
life, flora and fauna. Trekking equipment and tents are available
on hire from Andaman Teal House.
The Andaman Water Sports Complex offers safe water sports such as
Rowing Boats, Paddleboat, Kayaks, Aqua-cycle, Aqua-glide and Bumper
boats, facilitating adventure through water-skiing, water scooters,
Gemini boats, para-sailing, sailboats, wind-surfers, speedboats,
glass-bottom boats.
Entry Formalities
Foreigners : All non – Indian residents can stay in
the islands for 30 days. This can be extended by another 15 days
with permission. They require a permit to stay from the immigration
authorities. The places covered by this permit for night halt are:
South Andaman Island, Middle Andaman Island and Little Andaman Island
(except tribal reserve), Neil Island, Havelock Island, Long Island,
Diglipur, Baratang, North Passage and islands in the Mahatma Gandhi
Marine National Park (excluding islands – Boat Hobday, Twin,
Tarmugli, Malay and Pluto) Night halt in the Park is with permission
only.
For Day Halt : South Cinque Island, Ross Island, Narcondum
Island, Interview Island, Brother Island, Sister Island and Barren
Island ( Barren Island can be visited on board vessels only).
Indians : Indian nationals need no permit to visit Andamans. However,
permits are required to visit Nicobar Islands and other tribal areas,
which are given in exceptional cases.
How to reach
Air: Port Blair has no of flights to Calcutta, Chennai, Delhi.
Foreign tourist charter flights are also permitted to land at Port
Blair subject to the fulfillment of guidelines of the Director General
of Civil Aviation.
Water: Regular passenger ship services are available to Port
Blair from Chennai, Calcutta and Vishakhapatnam and back. There
are three to four sailings every month from Calcutta and Chennai
to Port Blair and vice-versa. There is one sailing from Vishakhapatnam
