About Chittorgarh

cChittorgarh was sacked thrice by a stronger army. The first sack occurred in 1303 AD, when king Ala-ud-din Khilji besieged the Fort in order to have possession of queen Padmini, wife of Rana Rattan Singh. In 1535 AD, Sultan Bahadur Shah of Gujarat besieged the Fort and caused immense carnage. It is believed that 32,000 men donned the saffron robes of martyrdom and rode out to face a certain death. The women folks committed Jauhar led by Rani Karnawati. In 1568 AD, Mughal Emperor Akbar razed the Fort to the rubble once again. In 1616 AD, the Mughal emperor Jehangir restored the Fort to the Rajput but it was not resettled.

Chittorgarh Fort
Bappa Rawal founded Chittorgarh, one of the oldest cities of Rajasthan, in the mid-8th century AD. Chittorgarh Fort is built over a 180 m high rocky hills of the Aravalli Ranges. The Fort provides great strategic importance to Chittorgarh. The Fort has seven gates, namely, Padan Pol, Bhairon Pol, Hanuman Pol, Ganesh Pol, Jorla Pol, Lakshman Pol and the main gate.

ChittorgarhRanakpur Jain Temple
The Ranakpur Jain Temple was built during the reign of the liberal and gifted Rajput monarch Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. The basement is of 48,000 sq. feet area that covers the whole complex. There are four subsidiary shrines, twenty-four pillared halls and domes supported by over four hundred columns.

Vijay Stambha
ctower of victory is an imposing structure located in Chittorgarh Fort in India. It was constructed by Mewar king Rana Kumbha between 1442 AD and 1449 AD to commemorate his victory over the combined armies of Malwa and Gujarat led by Mahmud Khilji. This 37 m high 9 storyed tower is one of the most remarkable in India . It is built partly of red sand stone and partly of white marble and is enriched by mumerous images of Hindu Gods and goddesses with inscriptions at bottom of each. There are around 157 narrow steps leading to the terrace from where one can have a beautiful view of Chittorgarh town .

Other Important Places to Visit In Chittorgarh
Tother tourist spots worth visiting are the Bhimtal Tank, Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, Meera Temple, Kumbha Shyam Temple and Kalika Mata Temple dating back to the 8th century AD.
